Narormine news | Well the lads in the Red Trousers had a great weekend of Pennants

This weekend sees our Grade 3 Boys Travel to Molong, whilst the Grade 5 Team is at Home to Gilgandra: Not too sure who is playing but the Squads will be posted on the notice board once we work out who away and or Unavailable for this weekend:

The Blue Ribbon event of the Club Calendar the “A” Singles Championships commenced last Saturday with the usual mixture of surprises and upsets. The marathon award goes to “Boppa” Daley and Adam Jermyn who kept their marker out there for some 38 ends before Adam was declared the winner 31/29. 

Saturday also saw solid wins to Aaron Hutchison, Robbie Stanford, Peter Cross, and Kevin Rider, whilst Ben Clark advanced to the next round without putting a bowl down owing to the fact Ross Edden was out of Action, courtesy of an Eye Operation.

So this Saturday we have eight Matches set down for play at 1.30pm, and they are as follows: 

As usual with Singles Matches we also need markers, so Alongside the designated Markers in Don Sullivan, Des Lincoln, Terry McDonald and “Boppa” Daley if anybody can help us out Saturday Afternoon, please feel free to add your name to the List that is posted on the Notice board.

Social Bowls on Thursday saw Dave McNair and team collect the jackpot, as well as win the Day, having a nice trot at the moment is the silent assassin, and by all reports didn’t go too shabby at pennants on Sunday, he certainly is in better form that a certain horse we backed on Saturday.

Sunday morning saw 9 keen Indians go round in the chook run with John Binch and John Adams Collecting the Days prize for the best performed team.

Just a reminder that The Footy Tipping competition kicks off on Thursday and intending Players need to have their cash & names into James or a member of the bar staff Tomorrow afternoon at the latest.

Last Saturday we had 24 starters in a two person Ambrose sponsored by McPherson Auto and Glen Smyth.

The sponsors provided a great BBQ lunch and a great day was had by all. Winners on the day were Tony Mann and Dudley Alcorn with 60 3/4 from Ben Rush and Mick McKean on 62 1/4.

Third on a count back were Kale Bock and Budd Cape with 63. In the non golfers Steve Buckley and Mark Munro had 65 1/4. NTPs ninth Ben Rush and tenth Greg Barling.

On Sunday we had 18 starters in a 4BBB which was won by Mitchell Smith and Tony Mann with 47 points from Dudley Alcorn and Ash Bullock on 46 points.

Third on a count back were Tony Harding and Greg Barling 45 points. NTPs 9th Richard Duff and tenth Kale Bock.

Last Tuesday in the Night Comp we had 82 starters with the winning team being Team Ford with 90 points.

Best individual scores were Col MacKay 26, Steve Barlow 25, Keith Hemsworth 24, Peter Gainsford 23, John Davison 23, Carol McDonald 23, Carole King 23, Jeanette O’Brien 23, Tony Beaumont 23 and Steve Thompson 23.

NTPs third Tony Barlow, 9th Ross King, tenth Greg Barling and 17th Neil Haley.

Next weekend on Saturday we have an Individual Stableford sponsored by George Mack and Sunday a two person Ambrose sponsored by the Car Club with BBQ lunch preceded by a Car Show and Shine on the Golf Course Sunday Morning.

Wins for O'Mally and Fraser.

A field of 20 golfers were in attendance for the weekly Gerries golf nine hole competition played on the Royal Narromine course which is in very good condition despite the terrible weather conditions.

Congratulations must go to the band of volunteers who do a wonderful job maintaining the course for every one to enjoy.

In the Ladies division,there were seven players and the winner was Maida O'Mally with 22 stableford points.

She made it clear she would not play in the hot weather and returned to golf with a stunning victory.

Runner up was Viv Halbish with 21 points.

Rumour has it that they played together so well done ladies. The ladies NTP went to Vicki Gainsford for the second week running.

There were thirteen starters in the men's comp and Malcolm Fraser shot a very fine round of 26 points to win the event from Mal Richardson on 25 points.

Last week it was mentioned that Terry Willis would loose shots from his handicap which he did and it is obvious "Boof" and Mal will loose shots this week.The mens NTP was won by Gus Smith and he collected two golf balls for his effort.

Fraser almost had a hole in one on the 17th bad luck "Boof".The overall NAGA ( Fletch award) went to Tony Beaumont well done Tony.

There was one visitor Mal Scholes from Canberra who was a guest of Bob

After the golf presentations the preliminary rounds of the Pool Comp were played. and resulted in Peter Gainsford and Gus Smith playing in the final against Tiger Berryman and Tony Beaumont.In a surprise result Tiger and Beauy walked all over the favorites to become the weekly pool champions.A great effort.

Next Saturday the Ladies will play the back nine and the Men on the front with the hit off at the usual time of 9am.

Ashley Boyd was following in some famous footsteps when he strode out to mount Free Ticket prior to the running on Saturday of the 1400 metres Robinson Grain Tottenham Picnic Cup.

Free Ticket, the previous Sunday, had been ridden by superstar jockey Hugh Bowman when finishing fourth in a Benchmark race at the Mudgee Cup TAB meeting.

Bowman, the day after yet another win on champion mare Winx, had made a rare visit to a country meeting and rode Free Ticket for his parents Jim and Mandy Bowman who part own the six year old brown gelding.

“ Free Ticket was ridden last start by the best jockey in the world and today is being ridden by the fattest jockey in the world !, quipped Ashley Boyd.

Ashley was of course exaggerating about his weight as even under the higher scale at the Picnics he still made the 65.5kg handicap for Free Ticket.

The Emma Gill, Gulgong trained Free Ticket was brilliantly ridden by Boyd who obtained a good position behind the leaders.

In front turning for home, the strongly supported Dead Reckoning ( Michael Hackett, $2.80 to $2 favourite ) was overtaken and beaten a length and a half by Free Ticket ( $6 ) with Collins Street ( Ricky Blewitt, $17 ) running home well for third.

Winning trainer Emma Gill ( née Telfer ) was a talented apprentice jockey with 49 wins to her name while she has now recorded 3 wins as a trainer.

Michael Hackett, runner up in the Cup on Dead Reckoning, had earlier kicked home a winning double for Parkes trainer Sharon Jeffries on Maria Elisa and Fasfer.

A newcomer to the Jeffries stable, Maria Elisa ( $3.50 ) led most of the way to win the Tottenham Hotel Class 3 Handicap ( 800 metres ) while Fasfer ( $2.30 fav.), in the Maiden Plate ( 1000 metres ), set the pace before clearing out to score by five lengths.

Another all the way winner was former Queensland galloper Excelcat ( $1.70 favourite ), now trained at Nyngan by Rodney Robb and ridden by Maddison Wright in the 1000 metres Open Handicap.
