Earlier this month more than 60 people living along Manildra Street signed a petition calling for something to be done to reduce the increase of north-south freight liners travelling through Narromine.

The Narromine News asked each of the candidates in the State election their stance on the issue, which is concerning a number of community members, however Mr Saunders and Mr Dickerson were the only two able to provide responses.

Both said it was a situation that needed to be resolved through discussion between the government and Narromine Shire Council.

While Mr Saunders said he had not been approached about the issue he said he was happy to facilitate a meeting with the council to try and resolve the issue. 

Mr Dickerson said the road was unsuitable for the large volume of traffic travelling through the residential area, and said his commitment would be to stop the River Street bridge in Dubbo and re-examine traffic movements along the Newell to determine the best route and appropriate infrastructure. 

"The entire process by this State Government around the Dubbo ring road and River Street bridge has been poorly handled with a distinct lack of communication between the Government and the community.

He said that two problems need to be solved in Dubbo to alleviate this issue.

"One is the local traffic congestion, a second is the throughput of trucks and cars along the Newell," Mr Dickerson said.

"The best solution may be a ring road or it may be having the appropriate road infrastructure to utilise a Narromine bypass." 

Narromine Council is seeking funding to carry out a study of the proposal and both candidates said consultation with the community needed to be undertaken during that process.
