James Daniel O'Brien, of Aldridge Avenue, Corrimal, was charged with one count of intimidating another person with the intention of causing the other person to fear physical harm.
The 34-year-old former Narromine resident pleaded guilty when he faced Dubbo Local Court on March 27.
O'Brien's legal representative said the outburst was triggered by a line of questioning that forced him to recall the moments he watched his girlfriend allegedly get repeatedly punched by another woman.
"It's obviously just somebody 'mouthing off' so-to-speak," Magistrate Theresa Hamilton said.
"Control your temper and what you say," she told O'Brien when handing down her judgement.
Through his representative, O'Brien expressed remorse for his actions.
