Trangie bands together to commemorate Anzac Day 2019

Residents gathered in the early hours of the morning to take part in the commemorative dawn service where community members listened to the Last Post, took a moment's silence and responded 'Lest We Forget' to the ode, to honour the diggers and veterans who make up the Anzacs.

Trangie had a veteran's march at 10.30am where community members proudly marched from the Trangie IGA down the main street to Memorial Hall where a commemorative service was held, paying respect to local service men and women.

President of the Trangie United Services Memorial Club Ian Hilder said it was a fantastic turn out for the small community.

"To us it seems to be getting bigger every year," he said.

"The young ones are embracing it, we had quite a number of school kids marching, and boarding school kids came and marched.

"Despite it being school holidays they still turned up for it, which is great to see."

He said it was also "brilliant" to have the members and affiliates of HMAS Merimbula visit each year, not only to help bolster numbers, but run the communities dawn service commemoration.

"It's just great to see those fellas come back. They're from Sydney, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbor, they come from everywhere just for Anzac Day," Mr Hilder said.

The President also thanked the group of women who tirelessly decorate Memorial Hall each year.

"There's a group of ladies here who do the hall up with Anzac memorabilia and it is a fantastic place to come and have a look at each Anzac Day," he said.

"They made all the poppies and just the memorabilia up there is fantastic, where they get if from you would never know, many donate it to them for the day and what not.

"It's a credit to them what they do, they spend almost four days up there getting it all ready.

"It's a fantastic small town effort."
