Lewis Varty opens L&J Quality Meats Trangie

At just 22 years of age, Lewis Varty has opened his own business in town L&J Quality Meats.

Originally from Baradine, Mr Varty has been a butcher for eight years, however it is his first time owning his own store.

"School wasn't an option for me really, so I asked one of our family friends to give me a job at Baradine, and I started off there," he said.

"I went on to do my apprenticeship at Wee Waa at the age of 14, so I was qualified by 17.

"I've been managing shops since then, and then I decided to buy one at age 22."

The young butcher said he sources his meat from Breakout River Meats Cowra, who source locally around Dubbo and Wellington.

"The stock that we get and the quality that they have, is really good," he said.

Mr Varty said since opening the store things have been "really good", and has already begun to make Trangie home, playing league with the Trangie Magpies.

"I play footy out here, so I decided to give it a go out here," he said.

"We've been busy. People in town have finally realised we're open so everyone's finally got around us.

"Everyone's happy with us so hopefully we get to stick around."

L&J Quality Meats is open 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 7am to 12pm on Saturday.
