Heavy vehicle drivers perform an essential service in tough and often dangerous conditions every day. Heavy vehicle safety is everyone's responsibility and through local safety programs we can make our roads safer for all road users.
Rod Hannifey's project will target heavy vehicle safety by maintaining green reflector markings of informal truck bays on the Newell Highway. I'm very happy to support this initiative and I commend Rod on his work.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the funding was part of $5.4 million of funding for heavy vehicle safety programs.
"This program is all about supporting the drivers who support our economy," Mr McCormack said. "Without trucks and truck drivers, Australia stops. Mr Hannifey said he is pleased to be using the funding to support truck driver safety.
