Trundle Boomers win third straight Woodbridge Cup crown with thumping win over Manildra

Dominant, it's the only way to describe the 2019 Trundle Boomers.

Josh Miles' side ran riot in Sunday's decider, fullback Brad Watt scoring four tries in a man of the match performance as the Boomers turned it on for their home fans in a 56-0 shellacking of Manildra at Trundle's Berryman Oval.

Ryan Porter bagged a double, as did Welsh rake Connor Farrer, and newly crowned Alex Armstrong medal winner Adam Hall scored 20 points as the two-time defending premiers notched up a historic third straight Cup crown.

Only one other side in the Woodbridge Cup's history has won three consecutive premierships, Stockinbingal achieving the feat in 1968-69-70.

Trundle only dropped one game in 2019 and finished the regular season with their fourth straight minor premiership and Sunday was the club's fifth consecutive grand final appearance.

Still, Miles says he wasn't expecting the sort of performance his side dished up against the Rhinos, their foes in the 2018 grand final too.

"We just came out firing," he said.

"Twenty-eight points in the first half of a grand final is massive.

"We stuck to what we've been working on all year and when we had the foot on the throat we didn't relent, and came away with a good win."

Sunday was the first time Trundle has hosted a grand final in 37 years, too, and Miles said the grand final glory was something the entire town was rejoicing in.

"I had a chat with everyone afterwards and the club was bouncing," he said.

"I've been here for a small period of time and it felt massive for me. For the locals, I can't imagine what it meant to them.

"Something like this, three in a row, I don't think it'll happen again in our playing career.

"The town gets right behind the team and they really deserve it."

Miles was quick to point out he's been blessed in his first year of coaching at Trundle, with depth of of the Boomers' strongest areas.

Jarrod Hall and Mahe Fangupo both came injected plenty - the former a bit of oomph and the latter a touch of flash - off the bench and Miles said those boys "would be starting in any other side".

But he reserved special mention for his Manildra counterpart Simon Osborne, with the Rhinos skipper leading his side's charge all day.

"From first whistle to last carry he was dominant on the field," Miles said. "He's a credit to Manildra and a credit to himself."

In the lower grades, Cargo made it back-to-back titles in the women's league tag while Manildra also enjoyed consecutive titles in the youth league.

Cargo accounted for Grenfell 32-16 in the league tag, Sarah Archer and player of the final Heidi Regan both bagging braces in the club's 2019 title win.

While in the under 19s decider, the Rhinos knocked off hosts Trundle thanks to a terrific outing from Trent Fliedner and man of the match Lachlan Sharpe.
