New Opal fares for Sydney's buses, trains, metro and light rail will come into effect on Monday, Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins said on Tuesday.
"In July we announced that 50 per cent off-peak fares would be introduced for three months to help reduce crowding during the busiest times of the day to support physical distancing and enhance the safety of our customers and staff during COVID-19," Mr Collins said.
"Although this period has ended, we will be keeping a 30 per cent off-peak Opal fare for bus and light rail too. Before the pandemic this was only available on metro and trains."
The peak travel times will remain:
* 6:30am-10am on Sydney Trains, Sydney Metro, light rail and bus
* 6am-10am on NSW TrainLink intercity services
* 3pm-7pm on Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink intercity services, Sydney Metro, light rail and bus
The $8.05 ($4 concession) discounted all day travel cap on Saturdays and Sundays would remain to help spread weekend public transport loads, particularly on ferries.
Peak fares will stay at the current levels and the Opal benefits remain the same, including weekday and weekly travel caps, half price trips after eight journeys in a week and $2.50 unlimited travel for Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card holders.
