NSW coronavirus: One new local COVID-19 case on Thursday October 22 in NSW confirmed as a close contact

One new local COVID-19 case in NSW confirmed as a close contact

ONLY one new case of community transmission has emerged in NSW, the state's latest 24-hour figures show.

Seven new cases were confirmed in the day to 8pm on Wednesday evening, NSW Health announced on Thursday, with six cases diagnosed in overseas travellers.

No cases are receiving intensive care treatment, with a total of 4174 cases in the state throughout the pandemic.

Authorities said the locally acquired case included in Thursday's announcement had links to a known case in the Liverpool cluster.

"Today's locally acquired case is a close contact of a previously confirmed case in South Western Sydney linked to the Liverpool private clinic cluster," NSW Health said in a statement.

"There are now 13 cases linked to this cluster."

A positive case identified on October 15 had also been traced to a source, authorities said, with the patient linked to "a person who NSW Health has identified as someone who likely had unrecognised COVID-19 infection during September and has since recovered".

NSW Health warned anyone at the following venues to stay vigilant, isolate at even the mildest symptoms and remain isolated until testing returns a negative result:

  • Souths Juniors Club, Anzac Parade Kingsford, in the poker machine room or the high roller room at any time between Saturday 26 September and Friday 2 October
  • Century 21 Dixon Real Estate, Anzac Parade Kingsford, at any time between Saturday 26 September and Friday 9 October, inclusive.
  • The Shed CafĂ© Royal Randwick Shopping Centre on Saturday 3 October between 3pm and 5pm.

The latest figures follow an alert to attendees at the weekend's Bathurst 1000 motor race and residents of the town that they should seek testing if they display any symptoms that could signal the virus.

The warning follows remnants of the virus detected in raw sewage in the area.
