Launceston's UTAS Stadium will host back-to-back 7.15pm fixtures on Tuesday, December 15 (Hurricanes v Adelaide Strikers) and Wednesday, December 16 (Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars) with the remaining six games played at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.
The Hurricanes will feature in four of the eight matches, including the season opener on December 10 against reigning champions Sydney Sixers, who will join the Strikers and Melbourne Renegades in playing three matches in the state.
The announcement means Tasmania will host a record number of BBL matches this season and according to Cricket Tasmania chairman Andrew Gaggin, it could be a sign of things to come.
Post-Christmas fixtures are yet to be announced and Gaggin hopes Tasmania will be in the running to host more games in the back half of the tournament.
"We remain in ongoing negotiations to try and get games after Christmas," Gaggin said.
"We're hoping this isn't the entirety of it, we're hoping for some more ... we're trying to get as many games as we can.
"We obviously want more international content [too] and things are looking promising for that next season, although obviously this season India won't be here."
Launceston has hosted two BBL games a season since 16,734 attended the city's inaugural fixture in 2017.
Like Hobart games, crowds at UTAS Stadium have steadily declined in recent years, with the Hurricanes' most recent clash with Adelaide Strikers attracting just 6181 spectators.
Gaggin explained the 6-2 split between Hobart and Launceston fixtures.
"The teams will generally hub in Hobart so it's probably easier to play the majority of the games here - we've always played two in Launceston and we're keen to continue with that.
"The Hurricanes will play in Launceston as well so they'll have the opportunity to see four different teams playing in Launceston."
Coronavirus restrictions will likely see crowds capped at around 10,000 for Bellerive Oval and UTAS Stadium matches.
"Venues will be at a 50 per cent capacity as per the government's framework for COVID-19 safe events and activities," Gaggin said.
"With priority to be given to Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania members, we expect ticket allocation to be exhausted quickly.
