A man has been charged with making a hoax bomb threat among other offences after police locked down part of Melbourne's CBD.

The 33-year-old Parkville man was arrested on Collins Street just after midday on June 19 as part of an ongoing investigation by the Arson and Explosives Squad, police said.
His car was searched by the Bomb Response Unit and police allegedly found a gun and a "quantity of drugs", investigators said.
A search of the man's North Shore home in Geelong allegedly found a suspected explosive device.
Police said the matter was not terror related and there was no immediate threat to community safety.
He has been charged with making or possessing an explosive substance, making a hoax bomb threat, trafficking a drug of dependence, possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, theft of a motor vehicle, and possessing weapons and proceeds of crime.
He was remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on June 20.
