Best for: Witness more than 8000 life-sized sculptures at one of the world's most impressive excavation sites. From 618 CE to 907 CE, the Tang Dynasty presided over one of China's most glorious periods. Its emperor, Qin Shi Huang, insisted he be protected from his foes in the afterlife. Marvel at the thousands of carved militias buried with the emperor at Xian's incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site.
