It comes after the telecommunications company on Wednesday, January 28, said it was investigating an issue stopping some older Apple devices connecting to its network.
Telstra said devices with this issue may include:
- iPhone 8 updated to iOS16.7.13
- iPhone 8 Plus updated to iOS16.7.13
- iPhone X updated to iOS16.7.13
The company had previously recommended any of its customers using those devices should not update to the latest software version until it confirms the issue is resolved.
How affected iPhone users can fix the issue
On Thursday afternoon, Telstra said Apple released a carrier settings update to fix the issue and provided the following instructions for its affected customers.
- Connect your impacted iPhone to Wi-Fi
- Tap Settings General About
- Accept the carrier settings update by tapping "OK"
- Confirm the update installed by going to Settings General About and make sure it says "Telstra 54.1" next to Service Provider
- If the Service Provider version does not show "Telstra 54.1" check you're connected to Wi-Fi and repeat the steps above.
Previously, police in multiple Australian states and territories had issued public alerts, warning iPhone users to delay updates until the issue was resovled.

"We're working on this as a priority with Apple and will share updates as we have them," Telstra said in a public statement on Wednesday, January 28.
"Apple has paused software updates released this week for some older iPhone models while they investigate. These include iOS 18.7.4, iOS 16.7.13, iOS 15.8.6, iOS 12.5.8," Telstra said on Wednesday evening.
ACT Policing and the NSW Police Force posted public alerts on their respective social media accounts after Telstra's notice, followed by Victoria Police and SA Police on Thursday morning.
Police said they were aware of the issue and advised people using the older Apple devices to delay software updates.
In an 11am update on Thursday, Telstra said Apple had identified a fix for the issue and it would be made available in an upcoming software update.
"Calls to 000 will automatically connect on an alternative mobile network if one is available," Telstra said in an update at 9am on Thursday.
"It can take some time (e.g. one minute) for the impacted device to connect to the alternative mobile network when one is available."
Telstra said it would post updates on its website.
