This year Trangie’s Tennille Adams is the first recipient in the Narromine Shire to receive the Tony McGrane Scholarship.
The award is presented to a student in the Orana region working to keep alive the vision of the former Dubbo mayor, who was key in establishing the Dubbo campus, and aims to help local students with the costs of their studies if they attend CSU in Dubbo.

Foundation member of the Tony McGrane Memorial Scholarship Fund committee Bob Berry said Tennille is the twelfth recipient of the scholarship, which began in 2010.
“This year saw the first recipient from the Narromine Local Government Area and we’re very, very pleased about that,” Mr Berry said.
“Tennille is a very worthy winner and she’s the first to come from Trangie. We’ve had winners from Parkes, Gilgandra, Coonamble, Wellington, and Dubbo. so it’s nice they’re spread out.”
Mr Berry said it was impressive to see many recipients have been from the faculties of nursing, early childhood and primary teaching, and continue to stay and work within regional NSW.
“The idea is to perpetuate Tony McGrane’s vision for regional development and regional education and that’s why we have limited the criteria to the areas in the Dubbo electorate,” he said.
Mr McGrane was passionate about the Orana region and as state member for Dubbo continued to encourage people to pursue education. Sadly he passed away from cancer in September 2004.
The fifth biennial Tony McGrane Memorial Scholarship dinner will be held at the Dubbo RSL on September 17, with keynote speaker Roger Fletcher.
Tickets are available from the RSL Club which will go towards raising funds for scholarships to be awarded to students in our rural footprint. Through the proceeds of the previous four dinners, combined with many generous personal donations the Tony McGrane Foundation has already awarded 12 Annual Scholarships.
