Mr Elrington was described in his citation as “the ever-willing helper, always willing to lend a hand”.
He transports patients to medical appointments and passengers to the airport. Even going a step further and taking people to Sydney for medical appointments.
The dedicated volunteers also calls into the sick at home, hospital and Timbrebongie.
After hearing he had won the award, Mr Elrington described the whole ordeal as “embarrassing”.

Mr Elrington attributed his success to “the people who work with you and do all the work”.
The volunteer said he would be celebrating his award over the weekend with his daughter Alison Ireland, who after finding out early about his award had “spun him a story” about her visit.
