Residents had the opportunity to create a care package for troops, sent free of charge to the Middle East, East Timor and the Solomon Islands via the Defence Force mail service.
To qualify for free postage, care packages needed to weigh no more than 2 kilos and packaged in a BM sized box, available at Australia Post for about two dollars.

New employee and instigator of the initiative Kristie Hill said it was a way to not only thank service men and women for the work they do, but show them that people back home are thinking of them.
"I thought by sending over some goodies and letters from the kids was a great way to say thank you to a soldier for all they've done and continue to do," Ms Hill said.
"I saw it on another post office's Facebook page and thought it's definitely something I would love to do, and love to offer the Trangie community to take part in."
Ms Hill said packages included a number of things including Vegemite, Shapes, Redskins, socks, roll on deodorant, shower gel and hand written letters.
Business owner Tanya Watson said she was more than happy to support the initiative.
"It was Kristie's genius idea, when she suggested it I said go for it ... I had quite a few family members in World War II and I know of people who were at Vietnam, and I just think it's the right thing to do to show support," she said.
"To let them know that there is somebody at home, that's not family or friends, that we do appreciate what they're doing.
"Because we wouldn't be living in such a great country if it wasn't for the men and women who give up their time and their lives at home to go and do this for us. They're definitely a special type of person."
Despite the cut off for Anzac day, people can still post care packages to defence personnel by visiting Australia Post stores.
