Nevertire drought breaker ball helps lift community spirits

Over 200 people gathered at the Nevertire Hall for a night of entertainment at the Nevertire Drought Breaker Ball on July 20.

What started as a conversation at a pub, a group of young locals decided to revive the ball after many years without one.

"We wanted to get everyone together for a fun night out, especially as times are so tough for so many in our community with the drought," Ball Committee President Doug Druce said.

Mr Druce said it was important for the community to come together and have a good time.

"The event was a huge success. We had 230 guests attend the event, who by all accounts we've heard, had a fantastic night with plenty of great food and drinks, dancing the night away," he said.

"The aim of the event was to bring all ages within the community together ... and [to have] a night to let your hair down."

The event was supported locally with the Legless Pedestrians entertaining guests, Soul Foods from Narromine providing catering, the drinks were supplied by the Nevertire Hotel and Mudgee winery 'Bunnamagoo' donated a wine pack for the lucky door prize.

The president said the committee were successful in obtaining a grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal in partnership with the Australian government, which was able to help catering costs, and subsidise some of the bus costs for guests.

"As with all events hosted by 'We of the Nevertire,' all profits from the event will be donated back into the local community in projects like the hall, or tennis courts, and the upcoming Nevertire Rodeo," Mr Druce said.
