The Narromine News was sent a photo of the vandalised sign which had been spray painted to say "how good is ice", timestamped at 8.50am Saturday morning.
Narromine Shire Council mayor Craig Davies said it's a "shame" more policing measures can't be in place to control crime.
"The sign should tell you everything," he said.
"Someone who is so dimwitted as to deface the sign to a public amenity, and put something of that nature up, clearly has an addled brain.
"It's a shame we can't get better policing measures to try and do more to eradicate it.
"I don't blame the cops one bit, it's what they're given that they have to deal with, and unfortunately they're not given enough."
