Julie was approached to open the new-look cafe, after coffee shop Bevo's closed at the end of last year.

"It's always something that I've wanted to do, but never had the opportunity or guts to do it," she said.

Despite being a local nurse, Julie has taken time off to see how the new venture pans out, along with the help of sister Dee.

"Julie was approached to see if she would be interested and just rang me and we had a think about it," Dee said.

"I was fine with it, I didn't have to sacrifice anything, whereas she did.

"I help (husband) Bobby mow lawns and office work, so it's been a big change, but I think it's an avenue that you have to go in with somebody else."

While some say working with your siblings would be tough, the pair said it's a partnership that works well.

"Julie's really good at cooking and loves cooking, but not me, I'm the coffee queen, or so they say," Dee said.

"So it works out alright."

"And see I very rarely make a coffee," Julie added.

The sisters said despite the tough times, since opening on January 6 they had received support not only from the community, but those travelling through from further west such as Cobar and Nyngan.

"Everybody's been extremely supportive which is really, really good," Dee said.

"Times are tough, and we know that, and we know that January's fairly quiet, although it hasn't been for us at the minute which is really good.

"We try to accommodate everyone's dietary requirements ... because we know what it's like, Julie is lactose intolerant."

The duo at cafe 2823 are also doing their part to support local produce including Trangie-owned Red Belly Black coffee beans.

"Other produce we like to use Mumble Peg orange juice, we use the blood orange from a lady in Narromine, our granola is by Five Brown Hens in Narromine so she made a blend for us, we use Hamilton Pride eggs and Little Big Dairy Co," Julie said.

"We try to keep as much local as we can."

The pair said they couldn't do it without the support of their family, who all help out from time-to-time.

"We're really lucky that we have a lot of family here," Dee said.

"Our niece's partner comes in every morning at quarter past six and he gets a coffee and a croissant, and puts out our umbrellas and our stools. Hes' beautiful," Julie added.

Cafe 2823 is open seven days a week.
